Retired police detective injured in motorcycle crash

Retired Spokane police Detective Donald M. Giese (Spokane Police Department)
A retired Spokane police detective was injured in a motorcycle crash on Trent Avenue today. Donald M. Giese, 58, was westbound on the state highway when he crossed the center line and left the roadway between Barker and Harvard roads at 2:31 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol. Giese was ejected from his 2004 Harley Davidson, which was totaled and impounded to a tow yard. Initial reports indicated the motorcycle may have flipped and landed in a field about 75 feet from the roadway. Giese was wearing a helmet, WSP said. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor, WSP said. He was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he is in satisfactory condition. The eastbound lane of the highway was partially blocked while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
