Cooler air blows into region

Cooler air has moved into the Inland Northwest and is going to linger through Saturday. Highs are expected to reach 70 degrees today, which is more than 10 degrees below normal. Thursday’s high was 89. A cold front Thursday evening has moved into Montana, but it brought wind gusts to 38 mph. Winds are going to resume today with gusts to 28 mph. Lows tonight may fall to 49 degrees. A broad low pressure area should remain over the Pacific Northwest, preventing hot summer weather from returning. Even so, a warming trend arrives on Saturday with a high of 76 to be followed by highs near 82 on Sunday and 85 on Monday. Showers are possible starting on Wednesday. At 9 a.m., it was 56 at Spokane International Airport and 55 in Coeur d’Alene.
