Valley congregations plan special Lent events

As the season of Lent continues, some Spokane Valley churches are hosting special events to help people get ready for Easter.

The congregations of Holy Trinity Lutheran, Good Shepherd Lutheran and Christ Lutheran churches are joining together to have a midweek worship services at Christ Lutheran, 13009 E. Broadway Ave.

A soup lunch will be served at noon each Wednesday followed by a short worship service. Every Wednesday evening there will be a soup supper and multigenerational activities beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. The services will continue through April 13.

Soup and bread lunch

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Road, will host a soup and bread lunch to benefit Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels at 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Several types of soup and bread will be available. There will also be information on the program and how to volunteer with the organization. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the meal.

Concert

The Tour Choir of Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, Wis., will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Monday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11315 E. Broadway Ave. The public is welcome. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Pie sale

Slices of pie will be available after the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road. The event is in honor of the church’s 102nd anniversary. Donations will be accepted with proceeds benefiting the church’s roof fund.
