Whitworth bests mark at nationals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Whitworth men’s 200-yard medley relay broke the school record during the first night of competition at the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday.

Nathan Ranno, Rory Buck, Aaron Vaccaro and Michael Woodward swam to a 1:32.24 to finish in 12th place in the 200 medley relay. That broke the school record of 1:32.78 set by the same four.

Austin Vierra was Whitworth’s only individual scorer for the day. He took 16th place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.70.

The championship will run through Saturday.
