DALLAS – People young and old commemorated the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination Tuesday, marking the occasion with an annual moment of silence at Dealey Plaza.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., dozens bowed their heads in memory of a day 48 years before, when Kennedy was shot as his presidential motorcade passed by on Elm Street.

The crowd ranged from conspiracy theorists and those who just came to remember to those who came out of curiosity and others who considered it a historic imperative.

For hours they gathered on the grounds near the foot of the Texas School Book Depository, where assassin Lee Harvey Oswald had hid six floors above, recalling where they were that day or arguing about still-disputed Warren Commission conclusions that name Oswald as the lone gunman.

Afterward, they continued to remember, wandering the grassy knoll or snapping photos of the painted X on Elm Street, thought to be the approximate spot where Kennedy was hit.
