Unknown culprits clobber soda machine with explosives

A soda machine in front of Broadway Foods was blown up tonight. The culprits were likely some “neighborhood hoodlums,” though no suspects have been identified, said Spokane police spokesman Cpl. Mike Carr. Police received the call at 9:18 p.m. Police were unable to determine what type of explosives were used, but the machine, located in front of the store at 2229 West Broadway Avenue, sustained significant damage, he said. Minutes before the machine was blown up, police received a call that explosives were being detonated in the area of Dutch Jakes Park, likely by the same person or persons.
