Drier air, wind gusts expected by this afternoon

Areas of rain were reported this across the Inland Northwest, including the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas, but forecasters said they expect conditions to dry out by this afternoon. The weak storm system bringing the precipitation was stalling over the region, and was expected to weaken further as higher air pressure and gusty winds arrive from the west. There is a 60 percent chance of showers in Spokane through the morning, but sunny skies are expected by this afternoon when the high may reach 70. Gusty southwest winds may reach 26 mph with sustained winds of 11 to 18 mph. Temperatures are likely to stay mild on Wednesday in the upper 60s with sunny skies. Then, a warming trend kicks in, sending temperatures well into the 70s for the rest of the work week. The weekend weather should be pretty nice with highs in the 70s and lows in the upper 40s. However, there will be slight chances of showers as new weather disturbances run into the warm high pressure predicted for the end of the week. At 7 a.m., it was 55 in Spokane, 54 in Coeur d’Alene and 54 in Deer Park. Spokane International Airport recorded 0.05 inches of rain early today.
