Vannatter interim coach at Riverside

Longtime assistant coach Mark Vannatter has taken over as interim head coach of the Riverside football program after Allen Martin left the team after the Rams defeated Medical Lake on Sept 10.

It’s not clear if Martin will return as head coach.

When asked if Martin is no longer the head coach, Riverside athletic director Brent Monroe said, “He’s still the head coach.” He referred all other questions to Superintendent Roberta Kramer.

“It’s a personnel issue and I can’t discuss it,” Kramer said when reached by telephone.

Calls were made to Martin, but he could not be reached.

Martin, who was a standout player at Whitworth University, has led Riverside to the playoffs four times, including a State 1A championship in 1993.

Riverside is 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the Northeast A League. The Rams are hosts to Newport (4-0, 2-0)  tonight.
