Boise outslugs Indians

BOISE – Boise pounded out 17 hits en route to a 14-10 Northwest League win over Spokane on Wednesday. The win gave the Hawks a two-game lead in the East Division and sent the Indians to their second straight loss. The teams meet again tonight in Boise. Spokane had 18 hits, but committed five errors compared with one for the Hawks. Leading 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks sent 13 to the plate, scoring seven runs and effectively putting the game away. Jeimer Candelar and Daniel Vogelbach led off the fifth with back-to-back doubles. One out later, Xavier Batistahit a three-run homer to make it 8-1. Boise added a triple, two singles and a throwing error by Spokane, and eventually added four more runs. Trailing 12-1, the Indians scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings. Center fielder Hirotoshi Onaka was 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs for Spokane.
