Potluck and comedy

Opportunity Christian Church will continue its series of special events leading up to its 100th anniversary in 2013 on Aug. 12.

A worship service will begin at 10 a.m. and will include a presentation of the church’s history in the 1950s. A potluck brunch will follow. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a dish that serves 10. Drinks will be provided.

The church will host a performance of the “McManus Comedies” at 1 p.m. that day. The performance is written by local author Patrick McManus and performed by Tim Behrens. Tickets are $10; children 10 and younger are free.

Concert

Pianist and composer John Nilsen will perform in concert at 1 p.m. Sunday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road. Nilsen has performed in all 50 states and overseas. Admission is free and donations will be accepted. Copies of Nilsen’s CDs will be available for purchase.
