Spokane Indians to post 9-8 win over Salem-Keizer

KEIZER, Ore. – Preston Beck’s fourth hit of the night, a triple, drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Spokane Indians came from behind to down the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 9-8 in a Northwest League baseball game on Friday night.

Royce Bollinger doubled to lead off the eighth, went to third on a throwing error and scored on Ryan Rua’s single, which set the stage for Beck. Carlos Melo (1-0) got his first win with two scoreless innings in relief.

S-K took an 8-7 lead after Brennan Metzger followed reliever Randy Harvey’s two-out throwing error with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

After rallying from a 6-0 deficit before losing in extra innings on Thursday night, the Indians again came back from a 6-0 deficit on Friday, with five runs in the third and another in the fourth.

Rua, who had a grand slam in Thursday’s loss, hit a two-run double for the big blow in the fifth inning.
