In brief: N. Idaho woman dies in auto crash

A 23-year-old Post Falls woman was killed in a single-car accident early Wednesday in Post Falls.

Yuri Raper was the passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet sedan being driven by Michelle Longstreet, 26, of Post Falls, around 12:30 a.m., a news release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.

The car was speeding east on Poleline Avenue when the driver lost control near Meyer Road, the release said. The car went off the road, hit a tree and rolled.

Both women were thrown from the car; neither was wearing a seat belt, the release said. Raper was pronounced dead at the scene; Longstreet was in critical condition Wednesday night at Kootenai Medical Center.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Team is investigating.

U.S. 95 collision injures three

Three people were injured in a head-on collision around 10 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 95 in Kootenai County.

Jedidiah Heath, 22, of Spokane, was driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner south on the highway near Garwood Road when he crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound 2012 Hyundai Genesis driven by Vanesa Fetrow, 41, of Harrisburg, Pa., the Idaho State Police reported.

Heath, his passenger, Del Turley, of Careywood, and Fetrow all were taken to Kootenai Medical Center, according to the ISP.

Heath was treated and released, and Fetrow was listed in fair condition as of Wednesday night, but hospital officials said they didn’t have a record of treating Turley.

All were wearing seat belts, and airbags were deployed in both vehicles, a news release said.

Aunt charged in nephew’s shooting

A 74-year-old Newport, Wash., woman was arrested after allegedly shooting her nephew during a domestic dispute Wednesday.

Nelda J. Treadwell is charged with first-degree assault/domestic violence in the shooting of her nephew, Tory J. Duty, 43, of Highlands, Calif. The incident happened about 10:50 a.m. following an argument over a vehicle, according to the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Sunnyside Drive, an area about six miles north of Newport, to a report of a man who had been shot, and found Duty with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Duty was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Wednesday night.
