The light drizzle of precipitation falling this morning has not been enough to accumulate in lower elevations. National Weather Service meteorologists originally expected about 2 inches in Spokane. Snow, however, is sticking in the region’s higher elevations like the mountain passes and northeast Washington where there’s reported snow in the Omak area, according to NWS meteorologists. Three to 4 inches of snow is expected in the Blue Mountains of southeast Washington and up to 8 inches of snow are expected in the mountains of the Idaho Panhandle. In Spokane, the Street Department planned to spread deicer on hills and intersections and start plowing as the snow accumulates. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. today above 2,000 feet in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area. Light snow is expected to continue through this morning and then taper off this afternoon. The weather service is warning of hazardous driving conditions during the morning commute.
