Car involved in chase later found on fire

Police attempted to pull over a reckless driver near Park Road and Trent Avenue late Tuesday night but lost it after the driver ignored a stop light at the Havana Street and Mission Avenue intersection, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

A car with a similar description was found on fire in a homeowner’s driveway near the 200 block of North Bessie Road, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Deputies confirmed it was the same car, and fire crews responded to put out the flames that fully engulfed the vehicle.

Arson was ruled out, according to Spokane Valley fire investigators. The fire may have started somewhere in the engine compartment, they told police.

Authorities did not know Wednesday evening who was driving or if the vehicle was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
