Vandals end Nevada’s 16-game winning streak

RENO, Nev. – Stephen Madison scored 18 points and Kyle Barone converted a three-point play and pair of free throws in the final 40 seconds to lift Idaho over Nevada 72-68 in a Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday night.

Barone and Deremy Geiger finished with 16 points each for the Vandals (12-11, 5-4 WAC), who snapped the Wolf Pack’s 16-game winning streak.

Deonte Burton had 18 points for Nevada (19-4, 8-1), including a breakaway dunk that put the Wolf Pack ahead 64-63 with 1:13 left.

But Barone hit a short jumper and was fouled with 39.7 seconds left and grabbed a defensive rebound and was fouled with 23 seconds left, proceeding to hit both free throws to put the Vandals up 69-63.

Burton banked in a deep 3-pointer with 17.6 seconds remaining to make it 69-66, but Mansa Habeeb hit 1 of 2 free throws and Geiger two free throws to seal the win for Idaho.
