The City of Spokane has activated its Homeless Warming Center program due to cold weather. The centers are not set up for lodging but provide shelter for the homeless for brief intervals during extreme cold weather. The sites are opened when the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to drop to 15 degrees or lower and homeless shelters serving the target population were at capacity the previous 24 hours. The centers will open today at 8 p.m. and remain open until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Locations are: •House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave. (Single men over age 18.) •The Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave. (Families with children, and couples.) As of Sunday evening Hope House (for single adult women) and Crosswalk (for youth) had shelter beds available. Tonight’s low is expected to be around 15, the Weather Service said. Tuesday’s forecast is for partly sunny skies and a high near 38. Tuesday night calls for snow, mainly after 10 p.m., with a low around 27. Snow also is in the forecast for Wednesday, with 2 to 4 inches possible in Spokane.
