East Valley School District students will have different schedules next year.

The district is changing its transportation and class schedule to help bus students to Continuous Curriculum School and to help with the transition as seventh-graders will now be spending half of the day at elementary schools.

When CCS was first opened, there wasn’t any busing to the school, which is a choice school. Over the past several years, students attending CCS would take the bus to their neighborhood school, change buses and travel to CCS. With the expansion of that school, the district is now offering a bus directly to CCS. Students would get on the bus with the eighth-graders and high school students to get to CCS.

Executive Director of Operations Brian Wallace said the change will also help the district now that seventh-graders will be housed in their elementary school. They attend their neighborhood schools in the mornings for core classes and travel to the Middle Level Learning Center at the current East Valley Middle School for afternoon enrichment classes.

Wallace said this will extend the instructional time for seventh-graders.

There will also be a schedule change for elementary schools next year.

“They’re starting later in the day,” Wallace said. Elementary students who bus to school will arrive at 8:45 a.m. and school will start at 9:10 a.m. The school day will be extended to 3:40 p.m., rather than 3:15 p.m. CCS will be on an earlier schedule next year – 7:50 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. – instead of 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Wallace said they will no longer offer transportation for students choosing to attend another school in the district rather than their neighborhood school unless there is an overcrowding situation.
