Fire leaves 15 in need of shelter

A fire displaced 15 residents at a north Spokane apartment complex early Saturday morning. Reports of the 1-alarm fire came in around 1:30 a.m. Flames heavily damaged the north side of the two-story building, fire officials said. The response was quick, though, and firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading beyond that section. Several apartment units suffered severe damage. The Red Cross provided food for the residents. Some received free clothes. But with so many hotels booked for Hoopfest attendees, the Red Cross struggled to find places for the residents to spend the night, fire officials said.
