Lewiston’s Phillips Idaho player of year

Tisha Phillips of Lewiston has been named the 2011-12 Idaho Gatorade Player of the year in girls basketball.

The award not only recognizes athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

The 5-foot-10 Phillips led Lewiston (22-4) to a second straight 5A state championship this year. She averaged 15 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 53 percent from inside the 3-point arc.

“Tisha Phillips is a fearless competitor and at times she seems unstoppable,” Lewiston coach Pat Teichmer said. “She has a very high basketball IQ and always wants the ball in critical situations. She is a winner in all aspects.”

Phillips remains undecided on her college destination.
