Lutheran church expansion begins

Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 7307 N. Nevada St. has begun a $2.3 million expansion that will add 10,000 square feet for new classrooms, a fellowship hall and a kitchen.

The congregation has raised pledges of $600,000 toward a total construction cost of about $2.3 million, said Wayne Sanders, head of the church building committee.

It will include a kitchen for neighborhood events, and five classrooms, Sanders said.

Construction will continue through spring and summer, with work expected to be done by Thanksgiving.
