Spirit Lake police chief resigns

Associated Press
SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho — Spirit Lake’s police chief has resigned and two other officers were disciplined over an inappropriate conversation at work. The Coeur d’Alene Press reports Pat Lawless resigned as Spirit Lake police chief Wednesday, citing personal reasons. Mayor Todd Clary says Lawless and two other employees had a conversation that was “not appropriate for the workplace.” The other employees were disciplined and declined further comment citing personnel reasons. Lawless has been Spirit Lake’s police chief for three years and had been with the department for six. The newspaper reported a call to his cellphone seeking comment Wednesday was answered, but the man said it was a wrong number. A subsequent call to the number was not answered. Clary says he expects to have a new chief hired within about two months.
