CORVALLIS, Ore. – Debates over who should start at quarterback for WSU will only increase after coach Mike Leach went back and forth between Connor Halliday and Jeff Tuel on Saturday.

Neither player was able to put the ball in the end zone, though Tuel’s numbers (11 of 17, 126 yards) suggested that his was the more efficient performance.

“I’m in a position where I’ve got to be ready 24/7,” said Tuel, who started WSU’s first two games before injuring his right knee. “I feel like I’ve done a good job of being prepared and ready to go.”

Halliday threw three interceptions and completed just nine of his 20 pass attempts. He made his fourth consecutive start and was pulled late in the first half after his second interception.

“I thought he’d settle down, and he’s going to be a great player,” coach Mike Leach said. “But he wasn’t settled down this game.”

The sophomore led the offense again to start the third quarter, but was removed in favor of Tuel after throwing a third interception on WSU’s first possession of the second half.

“I didn’t feel too hyped,” Halliday said. “A guy made a great play on the first interception and the second one I never saw the guy. I didn’t think I was too hyped, but I’m just going to do whatever Coach wants.”

Leach doesn’t know who’s starting next week.

“We’re going to look at the film and talk about it,” the coach said.
