Discharged Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie was discharged on Thursday after a six-day hospital stay amid an investigation into alleged player mistreatment. Athletic director Kirby Hocutt has said the university is investigating the allegations.

Agreed The Arizona Cardinals and inside linebacker Daryl Washington agreed on a six-year contract. A second-round draft pick out of TCU in 2010, Washington led the team in tackles last year with 111.

Revealed Three players fighting suspensions from the NFL’s bounty investigation – Saints defensive end Will Smith, Cleveland linebacker Scott Fujita and free-agent defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove – told a federal judge they’re comfortable with their representation by union lawyers.

Nominated Five-time major champion Martina Hingis, 1991 Wimbledon winner Michael Stich and doubles star Helena Sukova are among the 2013 nominees for the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Filed Arkansas football coach John L. Smith filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition for debts he incurred through real estate investments in Kentucky. Documents filed show the former Idaho coach has assets between $1 million and $10 million and debts ranging from $10 million to $50 million.

Extended Stewart-Haas Racing extended Ryan Newman’s contract. Newman is in the final year of the deal he signed in 2009. The extension is a one-year agreement, and he said he took a cut in pay just as nearly every driver has of late.

Considered The federal judge who oversaw NFL labor matters for almost two decades, U.S. District Judge David Doty, is considering a collusion lawsuit by the NFL Players Association that accuses the league of collusion. The players claim that the NFL conspired to hold down salaries in 2010 with a secret salary cap.
