Severe storm activity is heading north into the Cheney, Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas, the National Weather Service says. Thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong winds and possible hail are moving into Lincoln and Spokane counties and northeastern Whitman County. Warnings also were issued for Ferry and Stevens counties. Doppler radar indicates the line of severe thunderstorms could produce winds up to 60 mph. The weather service issued a warning this evening calling this a “dangerous storm” potentially bringing destructive hail and lightning as well as damaging winds. The agency urged people to take shelter inside. A similar warning was issued tonight for the Idaho panhandle, including northeastern Benewah County, southeastern Kootenai County and west-central Shoshone County. That storm may bring quarter-sized hail, forecasters said.
