Linfield, Carroll win in football playoffs

Dom Forrest recovered a fumble in the Hampden-Sydney end zone to cap a 28-point scoring run and the Linfield Wildcats (11-0) rallied for a 31-21 home victory over the Tigers (9-3) on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs at McMinnville, Ore.

With the victory, the Wildcats advance to a third-round game against Wisconsin-Whitewater. The site has yet to be determined.

Linfield trailed 21-3 when Josh Hill bulled his way into the end zone from 2 yards out to make it 21-10 at the half.

Hill added a 3-yard TD run with 1:57 left in the third quarter to cut the Tigers’ lead to four.

Hill connected with Westly Meng for a 2-yard TD 5 seconds into the fourth quarter to put the Wildcats up 24-21.

Carroll College 27, Missouri Valley 3: Dustin Rinker rushed for a pair of TDs, Spokane Valley’s Connor Smith kicked two field goals and Casey Norbeck returned an interception for another score to power the host Saints (11-1) to a victory over the Vikings (9-3) in a NAIA playoff game in Helena. Carroll led 6-0 at the half on Smith’s 18-yard field goal with 9:45 left in the second and a 23-yard field goal with 2 seconds left in the half.
