Police: Drugs fuel assault by mother, son on deputies

From staff reports
A mother and her son are in custody after the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said they assaulted deputies in a drug-fueled attack. Nancy Picariello, 46, and her 17-year-old son were arrested late Monday after a scuffle in the kitchen of their Spokane Valley home, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies were responding to a domestic violence call when they entered the residence to find Picariello allegedly shouting obscenities and trying to hit the officers. When deputies tried to restrain Picariello, her son entered the fray, shoving and kicking the two officers who eventually handcuffed the pair, the release said. Both were booked into jail early Tuesday. Picariello’s daughter told the deputies her mother and brother had been smoking methamphetamine prior to the incident. Picariello faces charges of third-degree assault and resisting arrest. She is scheduled to make a first court appearance as early as this afternoon. Her son’s name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
