Gonzaga third at Thompson Invite

Gonzaga finished third, Washington State came in fifth and Idaho tied for eighth place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational women’s golf tournament in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

The Bulldogs finished the three-round tournament at 38-over 900, 25 strokes behind winner Arizona. The Cougars finished at 50-over 914 and the Vandals at 62-over 926.

WSU’s Mallory Kent finished in fifth place among individuals, shooting a 3-over 219. Gonzaga’s Victoria Fallgren finished a stoke behind Kent in a tie for sixth place. Idaho’s top finisher was Leilanie Kim, who tied for 12th place at 10-over 226. GU’s Alice Kim also tied for 12th place, and WSU’s Kristen Rue and GU’s Raychelle Santos and Han Wu tied for 16th at 12-over 228.

Wrestling

Boise State’s Brian Owen (University High) will open the NCAA Division I wrestling tournament March 21 in Des Moines, Iowa, against Lehigh’s Randy Cruz. The NCAA released brackets Wednesday. Owen, a senior, wrestles at 133 pounds.
