No. 24 Zag women host Colgate today

The Gonzaga women’s basketball team today begins a stretch of six games in two weeks.

GU (3-1) hosts Colgate (1-4) and by the time all is said and done on Dec. 14, the Bulldogs will have visited Ohio State, Wisconsin and No. 6 Stanford.

The No. 24 Zags will be playing a Colgate team that has lost to Cornell, St. Bonaventure, Harvard and New Hampshire.

Colgate’s only win was Nov. 16 against Saint Francis (Pa.).

Coach Kelly Graves said he’s not concerned that starting 6-5 center Shelby Cheslek is averaging about half of her scoring and rebounding totals of last year, when she averaged 5.9 points and 5.7 rebounds.

“She’s still trying to develop as an offensive player,” Graves said. “When Shelby is on, she can cause the other team fits. She won a couple games for us last year.”
