Mead proceeds to semis

Shannon Payne hit a one-out double to drive home Sydney Shanholtzer from second base in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Mead walked off with a 7-6 victory over Shadle Park in a Greater Spokane League slowpitch softball quarterfinal playoff game Monday.

The Panthers were led by Olivia Byers, who was 2 for 3 at the plate, with two doubles and three RBIs.

Mead will play at No. 2 seed North Central today at 4 p.m. in a semifinal game.

Central Valley 6, Lewis and Clark 3: Central Valley hit four home runs in the top of the first inning of a 6-3 GSL quarterfinal playoff victory over host Lewis and Clark.

Makenna Wasteney was 2 for 3 with a home run, and pitched an efficient game for the Bears, not allowing any walks.

Lewis and Clark was led by Sage Scheiwiller and Kim Ward, who were both 2 for 3 at the plate, and Jessica Albinson, who was 2 for 4.

The Tigers were eliminated with the loss. Central Valley will play a road semifinal game this afternoon at 4 against top-seeded University.

Volleyball

Idaho 1A District I Playoff: Lakeside def. Wallace: In a back-and-forth match, Lakeside outlasted Wallace in five sets, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18, 13-25, 22-20, at Timberlake High School.

This was the first match in a best-of-three series to determine the Idaho 1A District I winner and state qualifier. The teams will play again at Timberlake on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in what will be an elimination game for Wallace.
