Police identify officers in shooting

Staff reports
The Spokane Police Department has released the names of the five officers involved in last week’s fatal shooting of armed robbery suspect Stephen Corkery. The officers who fired include Sgts. John Roys and Kevin Keller, and officers Paul Buchmann, Sean Wheeler and Art Dollard. The North Spokane shooting happened after police attempted to negotiate the peaceful surrender of Corkery, who has been implicated in 10 robberies of small businesses such as coffee stands, an ice cream parlor and a suntan salon. When Corkery walked out the front door of the home with a handgun, the officers fired within seconds. The gun was later determined to be a pellet pistol. The officers have years of experience with the SPD, including Roy with 21 years; Keller with 14; Buchmann with 11; Wheeler with seven; and Dollard with six.
