An early morning kitchen fire was extinguished by Spokane firefighters at an home occupied by seven people in the West Central neighborhood. Crews arrived on scene around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, where they found smoke billowing from a back door at 1618 W. Maxwell Ave. Firefighters confined most of the blaze to the kitchen, and no injuries were reported by crews or the three adults and four children who lived in the house, according to a news release. The Red Cross is assisting the family, the Spokane Fire Department said. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, which caused $20,000 worth of heat and smoke damage to the main story of the home.
