Derek Jeter was given two seats from Tiger Stadium during a ceremony before the Yankees played Detroit on Wednesday night.

The three-game series will be the retiring shortstop’s final appearance in Detroit unless the Tigers and Yankees meet in the playoffs. Jeter went to high school in Michigan at Kalamazoo Central.

Tigers greats Al Kaline and Willie Horton presented Jeter with the seats from Detroit’s old ballpark, which Jeter had a chance to play in before the Tigers moved to Comerica Park in 2000.

Offerman appeals

Former MLB player Jose Offerman is appealing a federal court order that he pay $940,000 to a catcher injured during a minor league brawl in 2007.

A jury last month awarded the money to former catcher Johnathan Nathans, who says he suffered career-ending injuries when Offerman hit him in the head with a bat.
