Arrest made in mobile home explosion

A man was arrested today for causing a mobile home to explode on Nov. 19 while he was allegedly trying to make honey oil from marijuana. Jesse L. Wenzel, 24, is now facing felony charges of manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and first-degree reckless burning. Honey oil, also known as hash oil, is concentrated THC that is extracted from marijuana using solvents and either propane or butane. Firefighters who arrived at the scene in the 17500 block of East Sprague Avenue just before midnight that day saw evidence of a hash oil lab and called police. “The north and south walls are completely blown out and just hanging,” said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Craig Chamberlin the day after the explosion. While possession of marijuana is now legal, the manufacture of honey oil is still illegal, Chamberlin said.
