Chiefs return from break to face Americans

The Spokane Chiefs return from the Western Hockey League break tonight with the opportunity to give themselves a post-holiday present. The Chiefs can forge their second five-game winning streak of the season with a victory over the Tri-City Americans. Game time is 7:05 at the Arena. Spokane entered the nine-day holiday break with a record of 18-12-3-0 after a four-game winning streak in which it outscored its opponents by a combined 17-9. The Chiefs also had a five-game winning streak Nov. 21-29. Spokane is 3-1-0-0 against the Americans (17-15-0-1) this season. The teams haven’t met since Nov. 22, a 2-1 Chiefs victory in Kennewick. Counting tonight, Spokane and Tri-City will play eight more times this season, including Tuesday’s traditional New Year’s Eve matchup at Toyota Center. The Chiefs will play eight of their next 12 games away from the Arena. Spokane is 10-5-1-0 on the road. Spokane, with 39 points, is five points behind U.S. Division-leading Everett and two points behind second-place Portland. Fourth-place Tri-City has 35 points.
