Area roundup: Shadow near title after win

The Spokane Shadow routed the outmanned Seattle Stars 11-0 Saturday night at Spokane Falls CC to climb back on top of the Evergreen Premier League soccer standings with one day left in the season.

The Shadow lead South Sound by one point. Both clubs play final matches today. Spokane is host to Wenatchee at 5 p.m. at SFCC.

The Stars were able to field only nine men after a car breakdown stranded some players in Moses Lake.

The Shadow took advantage with Mike Ramos and Adam Talley each scoring three goals, Timmy Mueller two, and Micah Weller, Juan Valderrama and Graison Le one each.

Boxing

Israel Alvarez, 14, representing Spokane’s Howard Street Boxing Club, fought his way to the 132-pound finals in the 13-14 division at the National Junior Golden Gloves tournament in Mesquite, Nevada, before losing a 3-0 decision to Harley Mederos of New York.

Alvarez had won a pair of 3-0 decisions at the tournament to reach the finals.
