Man seriously burned in West Plains fire

A man suffered serious burns Friday night in a mobile home fire south of Medical Lake. Firefighters were called to the residence in the 14000-block of South Salnave Road about 7:10 p.m. Flames had overtaken the double-wide trailer and already had spread to an attached shop by the time crews arrived, said Spokane County Fire District 3 Capt. Mike Moravec. “Fire was coming out of all four sides,” he said. “The back part of the buildling was already collapsed.” A man who lives in the mobile home suffered “extensive burns” to his face and upper body. He escaped on his own and made it to a neighbor’s home before firefighters got on scene, Moravec said. Because of his condition, he was not able to provide firefighters with many details of what happened, Moravec said. “He only told us the fire started in the kitchen,” Moravec said. The fire is under investigation. “There’s nothing left of the building itself,” Moravec said. The Medical Lake Fire Department also responded to the scene.
