Obituary: Hansel, David Michael

Age 47

HANSEL, David Michael (Age 47) Of Idaho Falls, passed away June 8, 2014, at the home of his mother in Idaho Falls.

David was born April 27, 1967, in Seattle, Washington, to Larry M. Hansel and Margaret Kinkade Hansel.

The family moved to Colorado when he was three years old, then Idaho when he was nine.

He attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Skyline High School.

He also attended the University of Idaho in Moscow and earned a Master’s Degree from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA.

On June 26, 1993, he married Tonya Ann Gerhardstein in Spokane, WA.

To this union were born three sons, Jacob, Joshua, and Isaac.

David and Tonya made their home in Spokane and moved to Idaho Falls in 2008.

They divorced in December, 2009.

In college David worked as a BLM Firefighter, then as a Road Construction Inspector.

At the time of his passing he was a Licensed Master of Social Work and had worked for several private and public entities, specializing in drug and alcohol counseling.

He attended Watersprings Church (formerly Calvary Chapel) in Idaho Falls.

He enjoyed fishing, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and spending time with his sons, his brother, and his niece and nephew.

David is survived by his mother, Margaret Hansel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jacob Troy Hansel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Joshua David Hansel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Isaac Joseph Hansel of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Troy E. (Bounyong) Hansel of Vientiane, Lao PDR; nephew, Jesse Hansel of Vientiane, Lao PDR; niece, Salena Hansel of Vientiane, Lao PDR.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry M. Hansel.

Memorial Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Reverend Ron Lavoie of the Idaho Falls First Presbyterian Church officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, Family Care Center, 840 Park Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
