Emeralds knock off Indians

EUGENE – Four Eugene pitchers managed to slow down the Spokane Indians on Sunday, giving up just five hits as the Emeralds took a 4-2 victory in the first game of a five-game Northwest League series.

The loss broke a three-game winning streak for the Indians (13-3). The loss was only the second in nine games for Spokane.

The Emeralds scored single runs in the second and third innings and added two more in the fifth. All four runs came off Indians starter Richelson Pena (2-1), who gave up seven hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings while striking out six.

Emeralds starter Jimmy Brasoban (2-1) picked up the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits and both Indians runs.

Marcus Greene drove in both Indians runs, which came in the fourth and sixth innings. Greene and Luke Tendler each had two hits with both slugging a triple.
