Bogdan Bliznyuk signs letter of intent with EWU

Eastern Washington signed forward Bodgan Bliznyuk, of Federal Way, to a letter of intent, coach Jim Hayford said Wednesday.

Bliznyuk, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound forward, was born in Ukraine but emigrated to the United States when he was 2 years old.

As a senior at Todd Beamer High, he averaged 19.6 points and six rebounds while earning first-team, all-state honors and leading the Titans to a fifth-place finish at the State 4A tournament.

“He’s a skilled player who can play multiple positions,” Hayford said. “It’s great to sign a really good in-state talent who fits our style of play. We’re excited to have him here the next four or five seasons.”

As a senior, he was named to the 2014 Associated Press 4A all-state team, and was a second-team all-state choice by the Seattle Times. He was the South Puget Sound League South Division Player of the Year and a first-team, all-league selection.

He also was a 3-point shooting threat for Todd Beamer, making 54 of 110 shots for 49 percent as a senior.
