Obituary: Atkins, Roscoe William

Age 93

ATKINS, Roscoe William (Age 93) Of Ventura, California, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 11, 1920 to Roscoe and Myrtle Atkins.

He attended and graduated high school in Wichita, Kansas.

Roscoe joined the United States Army in 1940 and served in the South Pacific for three years during World War II.

He reenlisted in the Air Force for two terms and remained in the Reserves.

Roscoe worked for Western Union as a Plant Tech for 30 years.

He was involved in the Eagles of Spokane.

Roscoe enjoyed hunting, boating and everything outdoors, except shoveling snow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Myrtle Atkins; and two sisters, Mildred and Christine.

Roscoe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Thelma (Spear) Atkins of Ventura, California; daughters, Karen (Bill) Koberstein, LaVonne (Larry) Driver and Connie (Richard) Ward; five grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Koberstein, Kristy (Ernie) Stephens, Michael Ward, Nicholas Driver and Nathaniel (Amanda) Driver; seven great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Oakhurst Hospice and Aegis Living of Ventura for the support and care in Roscoe’s final days.

A Graveside Service will take place on Monday, June 2, 2014, 11:00 am, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.

The United States Air Force will render military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a hospice organization of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
