Wenatchee World

WENATCHEE – Hoping to avoid heavy traffic congestion on Interstate 90 over the Thanksgiving holiday?

Avoid going:

Westbound between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Eastbound between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Westbound between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday

Those are the times the state Department of Transportation expects to be the hardest hit by lots of vehicles.

Travel over Snoqualmie Pass between Cle Elum and North Bend should be best today and Friday.

Online, you can go to the DOT’s website at tinyurl.com/whentodrive for specifics.

DOT charts for Highway 2 over Stevens Pass show no heavy congestion periods to avoid.

The drives over both passes should be wet, however. Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting 3 to 5 inches of precipitation to fall in the Cascades as a storm moves in through Friday.

Most of the precipitation will fall as rain since the snow level was hovering around 7,000 feet, according to the Weather Service. The snow level could drop to 5,500 feet later in the week.

In Western Washington, heavy rain is expected most of the week.
