Taylor Duncan is getting healthy.

That’s good news for the Lewis and Clark Tigers. That’s bad news for the rest of the Greater Spokane League.

Duncan scored three touchdowns Thursday, leading Lewis and Clark to a third straight victory, 52-19, over the Rogers Pirates in a nonleague football game at Albi Stadium.

Duncan, a senior, got off to a hot start this season, gaining 501 yards in the first three games. But he suffered a sprained ankle late against Central Valley, and had just seven carries the last two games.

He rushed for a team-high 134 yards in his full-time return Thursday.

In Duncan’s absence, the yards were kept in the family. His sophomore brother, Cameron, did a nice job filling in, gaining 213.

Taylor increased his season total to 692 and Cameron has 252.

LC (3-3) scored three second-half touchdowns to keep Rogers (0-6) at bay.

The game was sloppy in terms of penalties. The teams combined for 25 infractions for 223 yards with Rogers committing 15.

LC quarterback Jordan Summers had a fine game, completing 13 of 18 for 213 yards.

Rogers used two quarterbacks. Starter Cole Shafer, a junior, completed 15 of 25 for 143 yards in the first half.

When the second half started, Shafer couldn’t be found on the sideline. Reserve Austyn Holm, a senior, was 17 of 25 for 182 yards.

Things started fast for the Tigers. Camryn Schon returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

Before the Pirates blinked they were trailing 21-0 with 1:43 to go in the first quarter.

Finally, Rogers got untracked for a brilliant drive. The Pirates drove 95 yards on 14 plays with Marcus Phillips going the final 3 yards for a touchdown, trimming LC’s lead to 21-7.

LC put together a 4-minute, 24-second drive, moving to Rogers’ 25 before the possession stalled. But the Tigers got a field goal on a 42-yard kick by Adam Thompson to increase their lead to 24-7.

Cornerback Tyler Hojnacki put LC’s offense back on the field when he intercepted a pass at Rogers’ 44.

Four plays later, Summers found tight end Blake Ochsner on a late release for a 7-yard scoring strike for a 31-7 halftime lead.

Rogers had a scary moment with 3:32 to go in the first quarter when two Pirates collided in punt coverage. Patrick Pullins had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital with an unspecified head injury, GSL secretary Herb Rotchford said.
