WSU gives up goal, but wins match

Washington State gave up its first goal of the women’s soccer season but still defeated Hawaii 3-1 in Honolulu on Sunday.

Beau Bremer scored two goals and Kaitlyn Johnson added another as Washington State (3-0-2) rallied to defeat the Rainbow Wahine (2-4).

Johnson scored at 71:36 off a free kick by Susie White to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.

Bremer had tied the match after scoring on a through ball by Cara Wegner. She added her second goal at 75:14 after Mesa Owsley’s free kick was saved.

Bremer’s goals were her first two of the season and the first time the redshirt junior has had two goals in one game.

Hawaii scored in the 36th minute for the game’s first goal.

Hawaii’s goal ended WSU’s shutout streak at 798:16. It had been the longest active shutout stretch in the nation.

WSU had seven shots on goal to Hawaii’s three.

• Gonzaga gave up an early goal in each half and lost 3-0 to UC Irvine in Irvine, California.   

Gonzaga (3-3) managed just three shots on goal and were outshot 14-9 by the Anteaters (2-4). 

Men’s soccer

Graison Le scored Gonzaga’s first goal of the season but the Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 decision to host University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the Panther Invitational. 

Le scored from outside the box into the upper left corner at 27:55 to draw the Bulldogs (0-3) even.

Nick Moon scored the game winner for the Panthers at 65:08.

The Panthers (3-1) held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.
