Area roundup: Cougars finish second at Cowgirl Classic

The Washington State Cougars, led by senior Kristen Rue, finished second at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

Rue shot a final-round 1-over-par 73 to finish the three-round event at 4-over 220, tying her for fifth.

WSU closed with an 8-over 296 to finish at 31-over 895, seven strokes behind Nevada and four ahead of third-place Lamar.

The Idaho Vandals (914) placed 10th, while the Eastern Washington Eagles tied Portland State for 16th in the 22-team tournament.

Leilanie Kim paced Idaho with a 4-over 220 to tie for fifth place, while Marissa Borja led EWU with an 11-over 227 (tie for 30th).

Softball

CC Spokane (12-1, 9-1) rolled to an 8-0, 15-2 NWAC sweep over visiting Yakima Valley (0-10, 0-10).
