WIENS, Bonnie Clare On July 26th 2015, Bonnie Wiens, age 84, escaped the ravages of dementia and was transported to the “dwelling place Jesus prepared for her.”

(John 14).

Born on May 5, 1931 in Portland, Oregon, Bonnie grew up in Spokane but spent many summers with cousins at her grandparent Simpson’s ranch in the Colton area.

She graduated from Lewis & Clark H.S.

in 1949.

In March of 1950, she met an Airman named Ted at a dance at the YWCA’s “Club Stardust.”

They courted and were married in a small Chapel at Fort Wright on October 1, 1950.

During their 53 years of marriage, Bonnie and her husband Ted (Marvin) lived in three Spokane area homes that Ted built or extensively remodeled.

Family members have joked about his remodeling their Heavenly Home while waiting for her these last 11 years.

They had four children: Peggy (Jack) Kelly, Richard (Jean) Wiens, Connie Hart and Tim (Julie) Wiens.

Her sister Michelle (Ken) Lewis was like their fifth child.

She treasured her 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, attended their activities and chose individual ornaments for them every Christmas.

Bonnie was always interested in the lives of not only her family, but also her many friends.

Bonnie was a busy stay-at-home mom but returned to school after her children were grown.

She received her AA in Early Childhood Education in June of 1980 and was Coordinator for the Lake Spokane Cooperative Pre-School, Director of the Westview Child Care Center and an Aide in several Spokane Schools.

She was a passionate advocate for quality child care and participated in a local advocacy organization.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Jessie and Francis (Bill) Chalk.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00, Sunday, August 9th at Covenant United Methodist, 15515 N. Gleneden.
