NFL notes: Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jr. to replace Calvin Johnson in Pro Bowl

The NFL announced that New York Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been chosen to replace injured Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson in the Pro Bowl.

Beckham had 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in only 12 games.

The 12th pick in the draft finished the season with four consecutive games with at least 130 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Rodgers sits out practice

Aaron Rodgers didn’t practice because of a calf injury, though coach Mike McCarthy still expects his starting quarterback to be ready on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers host Dallas.

Jethro Pugh dead at 70

Jethro Pugh, an unsung member of the “Doomsday Defense” that helped the Dallas Cowboys win two Super Bowls in the 1970s, has died. He was 70.

Pugh was the first Dallas player to lead the team in sacks five straight seasons (1968-72). DeMarcus Ware, the franchise sacks leader, was the only other to do it.
