Derek Barron lowers Indian Canyon course record to 59

Derek Barron did something on Wednesday no other golfer, including the late, great Sam Snead, had done before at Indian Canyon Golf Course.

Barron, a golf professional out of the Tacoma Golf Center, shot a course-record 59 during the pro-am portion of the Rosauers Open. He shot a 28 on the front nine and a 31 on the back to beat the previous record of 61, held by several others. Joel Dahmen was the last to card a 61 – about 10 years ago – and current Indian Canyon pro Gary Lindeblad accomplished the feat a couple of years before Dahmen.

Snead held the course-record at 63 in the early 1940s.

Indian Canyon has been open for 80 years.
