NFL: The Minnesota Vikings signed kicker Blair Walsh on Sunday to a four-year contract extension with $5.25 million guaranteed and a maximum value of $14 million.

Walsh, who will make $660,000 this season on the final year of his rookie deal, was given quite the reward on the first day of training camp for the team.

Walsh was a sixth-round draft pick in 2012 out of Georgia. He promptly set an NFL record by making 12 consecutive field goals from 50-plus yards to start his career, 10 of which came in that stellar first season when he made the Pro Bowl. Since then, Walsh’s productivity has fallen off, with a 74.3 percent field goal rate in 2014 that ranked 31st in the league.

Austrian Thiem wins Croatia Open

TENNIS: Dominik Thiem of Austria beat Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-4, 6-1 to win the Croatia Open in Umag, Croatia.

Thiem became the first Austrian to win the title since Thomas Muster in 1995.

“Today was very special day. We were watched by world’s No. 1 Novak Djokovic,” Thiem said. “Usually he is the one who entertains us with great tennis and today we turned it around.”

• France’s Paire wins first ATP title: Benoit Paire of France won his first ATP title by beating Spain’s Tommy Robredo 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 in the men’s final at the Swedish Open in Bastad, Sweden.

He beat the favorite, two-time champion after first saving two set points in the first set tiebreak, which he eventually won in 56 minutes on a cool, blustery day.

• Tomic wins second straight Claro Open: Bernard Tomic of Australia defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to win the Claro Open in Bogota, Colombia, for the second consecutive year.

The 29th-ranked Tomic broke Mannarino’s serve twice in the third set to secure the victory in Colombia and clinch his third career title.

• Stosur rallies for Gastein Ladies victory: Samantha Stosur rallied to defeat third-seeded Karin Knapp of Italy 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the final of the Gastein Ladies in Bad Gastein, Austria.

It’s the second title of the season and eighth overall for the 23rd-ranked Australian, who was seeded second. Stosur also won in Strasbourg in May.

Seventh title for U19 women’s basketball

MISCELLANY: South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson led the U.S. to its record sixth straight women’s under-19 world basketball title and seventh overall, scoring 30 points in the Americans’ 78-70 victory over Russia in the championship game at Chekhov, Russia.

Wilson broke the U.S. women’s scoring record in a U19 game and averaged 18.3 points in the tournament to take MVP honors.

• Jones, May win swim title: Christina Jones and Bill May of the U.S. won the first gold medal in new mixed duet technical synchronized swimming at the world championships in Russia.

The mixed duet is new to the world championships. The event brings men with jelled hair and nose clips into what has traditionally been a female sport dominated in recent years by Russia.
