Former Mt. Spokane baseball star Drew Rasmussen earns Pac-12, national awards

Former Mt. Spokane standout Drew Rasmussen, who pitched the first perfect game in the Pac-12 since 1973, was named not only the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week but also Collegiate Baseball’s National Pitcher of the Week.

Rasmussen, an Oregon State right-hander, needed just 103 pitches to register the fourth perfect game in conference history in a 3-0 win over Washington State on Saturday. The first three perfect games were all by WSU pitchers. Rasmussen struck out 10 Cougars and induced 11 ground balls in a brisk one-hour, 44 minute game to improve to 3-0 and lower his ERA to 1.36.

Casey Stangel (Lake City) had a bases-loaded, two-run single and Julie DePonte’s three-run homer highlighted a six-run first inning as No. 17 Washington (29-7, 2-3 Pac-12) defeated UCLA 6-2 on Monday night at Husky Ballpark in Seattle in a Pac-12 game to snap the No. 9 Bruins’ 26-game winning streak. UCLA is 29-6, 5-1.
