Gonzaga men’s basketball team No. 11 in coaches poll

Gonzaga is ranked No. 11 in the USA Today preseason men’s basketball poll.

The Zags, which won a school-record 35 games last season and advanced to the Elite Eight, are ranked just behind No. 10 Arizona, which visits the McCarthey Athletic Center on Dec. 5. Potential GU opponents in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament include No. 25 Connecticut and three teams receiving votes, Michigan, Texas and Texas A&M.

North Carolina and Kentucky shared the top spot in the coaches poll, followed by Maryland and Duke; the latter defeated Gonzaga in the NCAA tournament en route to last year’s national title.

The Zags entertain Eastern Oregon in an exhibition game Nov. 7 before opening the season against Pittsburgh in Okinawa, Japan, in the Armed Forces Classic Nov. 13.
